Victorian Aesthetic Period Whiting Sterling Child's Cup

A ca 1880s Aesthetic Period sterling child's cup by Whiting Mfg Co of New York. It has a lovely brite-cut and hand incised floral and scroll pattern on the sides. The top has a rolled rim and a millegrain border.

A beautiful touch is the handle's raised thumb rest with embossed sunflowers and foliage. The front is inscribed in cursive "Florence Spencer's 2nd birthday". The bottom is stamped with Whiting's hallmark STERLING 324V.

The silver is quite thick but not tough enough for the energetic toddler; she put some small dents in the cup, the lip and bottom mostly. Still it remains sturdy, handsome and usable.

The cup is 2 7/8" high, 2 5/8" diameter, and 3 3/4 across the handle. Weight is 100.5 grams.
